What is Counselling?
Counselling is a talking therapy which gives you the time to explore and better understand your feelings and thought processes, allowing you to find your own solutions to issues. Together we can look at your goals and expectations from counselling and work towards achieving these.
I am a qualified integrative counsellor. I utilise different theories and tools to best support you as an individual. My particular passion is noticing how we feel in our body to connect us with our deeper emotions. Working in the here and now I also value mindfulness techniques and work with you to help you feel grounded.
"Awareness is the greatest agent for change." - Eckhart Tolle
Why not just talk to a friend?
Having the support of friends can help you through life’s challenges but counselling allows you to share things with complete honesty. You may feel worried about burdening a friend or upsetting them, I am not part of your friendship group or a family member, and as such can be totally impartial, allowing you to feel free to share without having to filter what you say.
What you share is kept confidential between us. (There are some specific exclusions to this but I will explain those when we start work together).
A little poem that sums things up pretty well
I am here to listen
Not to make miracles
I am here to help you discover what you are feeling
Not to make your feeling go away
I am here to identify your options
Not to decide for you what you should do
I am here to discuss difficult steps with you
Not to take the steps for you
I am here to help you discover your own strengths
Not to rescue you and leave you still vulnerable
I am here to help you discover you can help yourself
Not to take responsibility for you
I am here to help you to learn to choose
Not to make it unnecessary for you make a difficult choice
I am here to provide support for change
